New perspective on Myanmar

Here's a new book about Myanmar for those familiar with its politics. It's by U Thant's grandson (U Thant = Burmese former UN Sec-Gen), and it vastly criticizes The Lady and other pro-sanction perspectives. Am looking forward to reading it and adding it to my collection.

I just read The River of Lost Footsteps. It's very well written and full of interesting stories and insights. It's a first-rate introduction to Burmese history. And it includes a very strong argument with any attempt to further isolate Burma, either through sanctions or in other ways. But it's not so critical of Aung San Suu Kyi, only of her strategy. It offers a much more sophisticated vision of change in Burma. Every Burmese should read this book.
